Rita Meyerhoff has been a craftsman her entire adult life. Although she initially started out in areas such as cross-stitch and embroidery, Rita began a shift towards quilting in 1990’s while living in Glendale, Arizona. Today, she almost exclusively focuses on this specialized craft. However, the years of experience she gained working on other types of hand crafts has served her well as a quilter. In particular, she has been able to take the unique techniques associated with cross-stitch, embroidery and crafting and apply them to the art of quilt-making.

Since moving to the Arvada, Colorado area in 2004, Rita has further developed her quilting skills through various courses on the use of specialized techniques, attending state and national workshops, and “learning by doing” through the mentorship of peers in the local area. Over this time period, she has particularly focused on the art of making Crazy Quilts – anything from designing and making a full-sized quilt to creating unique products such as pincushions, chatelaines, and wall hangings using crazy quilting techniques. Please visit the quilting gallery to see not only examples of her crazy quilting work, but examples of many other types and styles of quilts she has made – from both patterns created by others and of her own design.

In 2008, Rita established Heaven’s Quilts, fulfilling a long time dream of being the owner and operator of her own small business. Growing from working with only a single sewing machine to having several machines and a long-arm, Heaven’s Quilts today provides many types of quilting services – teaching private and group classes, conducting quilting workshops, making quilt-based presentations to various organizations, creating patterns designs and custom quilts, and, of course, quilting quilt tops for others. The Heaven’s Quilts store has also become a local source for many of the unique embellishments that are routinely incorporated into crazy quilt designs.

Rita enjoys giving back to the local quilting community through active participation with the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum in Golden, CO. Not only has she has served as a docent for the Museum for many years, but she also regularly contributes her time and resources to support Museum fund raising activities, such as quilting the 2012 annual raffle quilt.

Since 2007, Rita’s efforts have resulted in numerous awards for her own quilts and for clients that have relied upon her to quilt their pieced quilt-tops. Examples of her awards include:
